Borderlands was released here in the EU yesterday, and I don’t think I’ve been thinking about anything else since. I had high expectations towards Borderlands, but nothing like this! Man, it’s so fucking awesome you won’t believe!

I’m absolutely loving the RPG integration with the FPS gameplay. Fallout 3 also did this in some way, but nowhere near as excellent and gracefully as Borderlands.

Don’t get me wrong, Fallout 3 is one of the best games of all time, but even though many similarities with Borderlands, they are still so very, very far apart. I gotta admit though, it seems Borderlands took the throne from Fallout 3 here. Added multiplayer co-op, and so much more RPG elements, it was bound to happen in my honest opinion.
I love Borderlands.

I’ve started off with the soldier class (Roland), as he seemes like a good allrounder for getting to know the game, and I’m glad I did. His speciality lies in Assault Rifles and Shotguns it seems, which suits me perfect as those weapons are my favourite weapons in any FPS shooter. Now, combining these weapons with special skills, elementals and attributes, makes my beloved weapons all so much more satisfying in both usage and fragging!
Did I mention I love Borderlands?

Haven’t tried online play yet. I’m still a little catious regarding it because of the known bug which deletes your progress together with XP and loot. There are several other bugs reported by many players, but I’ve been so lucky to not have encountered a single bug. Worked perfectly out of the box for me. And I hope it stays that way right up to the patch arrives.

I don’t get a huge ammount of gameplay like I sometimes wish for, but today I will!
Mrs. Ca9ine is heading out for the night, so that means GAMING TIME for Ca9ine! :D

Let’s drop all the negativity and hate entries for a while, and talk about the next AWESOME thing coming my way, namely Gearbox’ new baby, Borderlands! My goodnes how I’m looking forward to play this awesome looking game! I’ve been watching endless preview videos, gameplay videos and reading just about every article and review there is for Borderlands. Even live gamplay feeds from the Xbox. As you know, I’m a PC gamer, so it’s arriving a little later for us.

At time of writing this post, Borderlands has finishing pre-loading onto my Steam client awaiting activation and my left hand fingers on the 1337etst WASD keys and my right hand t3h über mouse! CAN YOU TELL I’M EXCITED?!

The game concists of following combined elements from game genres I love dearly.
Of course, firstly, the FPS shooter, second the co-op teamplay with close mates and a welcome addition is the RPG style elements like gathering stuffles and XP grinding for leveling up. The RPG elements I consider a combination of a Diablo style game and the classic RPG’s like the Final Fantasy series.

The Duel inclusion is gonna be hilarious. I can see myself walking alongside my clanmates who are loving the game and are probably in la-la-land, and then… BANG! Face-to-Face with Ca9ine in a duel! (Which I’ll probably lose anyway :/)

Yeah, I know, I use that expression a lot.
But it’s never been so fitting to anything than the following Geeks.co.uk article about Activision CEO Bobby “AnalRapeMeNoWithLubeKthx” Kotick.

What the hell?! I say again; -”WHAT THE HELL?!”

I won’t make a long entry, as the article speaks for itself, but I will say this;
I’m giving serious thought to abandoning all Activision titles from now on. I don’t care if the titles are greatly anticipated AAA titles, this sort of shit is down right offensive to me personally to be honest. I spend my hard earned money on Activision titles, but get little to nothing in return most of the time.

Take Enemy Territory: QUAKE Wars as a perfect example.
A great game, but now, as developer Splash Damage’s contract with Activision has come to an end, Activision has turned it’s back on it and doesn’t give a rats ass. Splash Damage themselves took from their own pockets to create the latest patch, when it’s actually the publisher who’s responsible for support and updates. And this is only one, of a shitload of examples.

Great company, huh? Activision…
Go fuck yourself, Bobby Kotick. You and your company.

Infinity Ward has done what I never thought they would… Fucking the PC gamers over!
2009’s most anticipated game, Modern Warfare 2 seems to be ruined for the PC.

I don’t mean the delay rumour, which has been confirmed untrue, but the fact that PC gamers will no longer be able to connect to dedicated servers, host their own servers or play custom matches.

Is this the future of PC Gaming? Should I fear for other games I’m anxiously awaiting?

List of rumours I know of:

1. No dedicated servers for the PC
2. IW partnering with Steam, though matchmaking is not through Steam, but IW.NET
3. No PunkBuster. Steam’s VAC is the chosen anti cheat
4. PC will not have custom content
5. PC will be just like XBL, but within Infinity Ward’s own IW.NET service

The lamest thing here is that Infinity Ward hasn’t released an official statement regarding this, but fourzerotwo, their community manager made a little statement on BASHandSlash’s webcast. Which is ridicilous. Infinity Ward should release a statement on their own site and Activision’s site regarding this! People have pre-ordered the game for fucks sake, people who now many of, will cancel their purchase because of said rumour.

I’m actually holding on to a tiny hope of this being just a rumour, or a stunt by Infinity Ward because they realize they can’t release a fully polished game for the PC and have a Day 1  or Week 1 patch ready, thus releasing it with the console specs and limitations.

At least fourzerotwo is saying patching is available if the community gives feedback.

Is this Activision’s doing, forcing Infinity Ward to go this way?

I can only hope.
